Sarah Lindsell, Global Learning and Development Director at PwC will focus on the struggle to strategise and plan in an environment that is ever-changing. 2020 has had businesses looking to find a firm footing on a daily basis. No sooner is the ink is dry on one draft of a playbook than it needs rewriting to fit a new, and constantly evolving, set of circumstances. In her case study-led presentation, Lindsell will share insights into the way PwC managed through the early days, how analytics helped deliver real-time responses, and what their plans are for the future.

Dani Saadu, Global Head of People Development at Collinson, will run a practical session on the paradigm shift – how the transition to long-term remote working can be supported, what L&D should be focussing on, and lessons from a global organisation.

The pandemic has brought some kind of transformation to every workplace, exposing weaknesses and enabling the strong to become stronger. It has also accelerated change and forced dramatic re-alignments. Nigel Paine will explore “5 shifts – the game changers for L&D”, the differentiators that will demonstrate if you are powering forward or slipping backwards.

Speakers will also explore perennial, non-Covid related challenges. As Robin Hoyle says, “We have all had to change, but not everything is up for grabs  – nor should it be.” The core challenges in L&D remain, only now viewed through a different lens.

Perry Timms will be running a session on “Learning Labs: simulate not teach.” Even before the impact of coronavirus, training courses were hard to fit into our working lives. Now, there’s an even greater challenge to bringing people together in a physical environment, especially in the case of knowledge workers. However, simulators that use real-world performance problems, expertise and coaching techniques, can replace tiring, predictable courses, and instead offer safe spaces to experiment and experience scenarios that prepare you for the way things really are.

Andy Lancaster, Head of Learning at CIPD will be running a session on “How mistakes provide powerful learning experiences” The key being whether we can leverage value from them. The session will look at the research and thinking that underpins mistake-based learning. In the context of managing risk, Andy will suggest tactics to harness mistakes for learning and how to use technology and simulations to support mistake-safe performance improvement.

Headlining the two-day conference, John Amaechi OBE will be interviewed by Robin Hoyle on everything from leadership and building high-performance teams, to inclusion and resilience. John is a respected organisational psychologist, a best-selling New York Times author and a research fellow at the University of East London. His research interests are effective inclusive leadership and organisational design that maximises productivity and human thriving readiness for the future world of work.
